char 定长型,字节长度固定,最大长度为255字节,可以使用char(20)这种方式限定长度,查询速度快,但不灵活
varchar 变长型,字节长度随数据量变化,最多可存储65535字节,varchar(20)可以限定长度,查询速度不及char,但使用灵活
如果需要存储文本或者文档,需要使用text类型数据,包括四种
tinytext 255字节
text 65535字节
mediumtext 16777215字节
longtext 4294967295字节
以上三种在进行分组排序或者比较的时候只采用前1024字节进行比较
字符集
对于拉丁语系,比如英语,其中每个字母只需要1个字节来存储;而其他一些语言,比如中文,包含了大量字符,每个字符的存储需要多个字节,因此这类字符集被称为多字符集
